Jean E (Howerter) Allen
Obituary
Jean E. Allen, 81, of Prairie City, IL, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022 at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL. She was born May 26, 1941 in Harris Township, IL, the daughter of Ross and Anna Louise (Deeder) Howerter.
She married Hollister Douglass and together they had one son, Keith (Jody) Douglass of East Galesburg, IL. She married Sid Allen and together they had one son, Kevin (Julie) Allen of Rushville, IL. They later remarried on August 26, 1977 for nearly 40 years until Sid preceded her in death on July 17, 2017.
Jean and Sid owned and operated Allen Trucking. Together they drove their semi all over the country until their retirement.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons; grandchildren, Amanda Douglass, Gina (Adam) Martin, Joni (Eric) Wagner, Jaris (Ben) Buehler, Kelly Allen, Ryan Allen and 11 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Kathy Livingston for all of her kindness and for being such a great neighbor to Mom.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Kenneth Howerter.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Prairie City Cemetery, Prairie City, IL. A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, December 9, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Wise Family Funeral Home in Avon, IL. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the local humane society.
