Hazel Irene (Taylor) Miller

Hazel Irene Miller, the daughter of Caroline and Harry Taylor, was born April 15, 1929. She met Jesus and her 11 Heavenly children on January 25, 2023 at the age of 93. She was one of 8 girls, all deceased (Harriet Daniels, Virgie Bayne, Elsie Huey, Eula Foster, Ruby Wright, Essie Scheffert and Mamie Tarvin).  Hazel was raised and educated in Bath and Havana, IL.

She was married to Melvin “Dutch” Miller for 56 Years until his death and is survived by two children, Debra Johnston (Dan Johnston) of Roseville and Michelle Hall (Mark Hall) of Monmouth.  Hazel was the grandmother of eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. 

Hazel was active in bowling, ballroom dancing, and playing cards, which included the monthly gathering of the Point Pleasant Pitch Club.  Bird watching, poetry writing, and reading topped the list during quieter times.  She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She worked outside the home for a few years at Everly House, Kirlin’s Hallmark in Macomb and the Roseville Florist.  

Having resided on a farm most of her life, Hazel was an avid gardener and cook.  Shelves were lined with plentiful home-canned vegetables to share with others.  Her cooking and baking skills were excellent and she always had more than enough for unexpected visitors or anyone experiencing a hard time.  

Most important to her was knowing Jesus as her Savior.  This was reflected daily in the love and care she shared with her family and others. Nieces, nephews, those who needed a listening ear, or those dropping in for a neighborly visit never had to call ahead.  The door was always open.  Her dedication to the Lord was exemplified by her service to the Roseville United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Naomi and Priscilla Circles and the United Methodist Women.  Hazel was always ready to pitch in. She volunteered on the board of the American Red Cross and Regional Board of the Red Cross in Peoria, IL.  She also volunteered at Warren Achievement and Roseville Community Schools.  No one was excluded from her warm smile and kind words.  

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 28th at 2:00 pm at the Roseville United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Roseville United Methodist Church. Wise Family Funeral Home-Roseville is handling the arrangements.
