Anne S. Hall, 77, of Roseville, IL passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018, 4:54 a.m. at St. Francis Medical Center Peoria, IL. She was born Sunday, August 4, 1940 in Galesburg, IL the daughter of Loren P. and Portia M. (Tingley) May. She married Bruce Lewis on March 3, 1961. She later married Michael Hall on June 1, 1984.
Her husband survives as do her three children, Tammi Lewis of Henderson, IL, Cynthia Fitch of Maquon, IL and Timothy (Charlene) Lewis of Huntington Beach, CA; three stepchildren Michael Hall of Macomb, IL, Mark Hall of Iowa, and Mitchell Hall of FL; her grandchildren: Autmn Fletcher of Monmouth, IL, Robb, Bailey, Joe and Jacob Fitch of Denver, CO, Haley, Olivia, and Sam Lewis of Huntington Beach, CA; 2 great grandchildren: Sofia Dixon and Silas Carson, and one on the way; as well as 4 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren; also surviving are three brothers, Timothy G. May of NC, Lonnie (Janice) May of FL, and Leonard May of IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a stepdaughter (Marla).
Anne retired from Roseville Grade School where she taught for 18 years. Prior to that she taught at Christian Life Center School in Galesburg, IL. In her younger years, Anne was a child evangelist who tirelessly taught children about Jesus. For several years she led the Christ Ambassadors youth group at Calvary Assembly of God in Galesburg, IL, where she also taught Sunday School and “Jr. Church.” She held backyard Bible Clubs in many Galesburg neighborhoods in the 60s and 70s and for several summers traveled in IL, IA, and MO conducting week long “Kids Krusades” at sponsoring churches. It’s anybody’s guess as to how many children’s lives were affected by her ministry. Anne was also a professional cake decorator whose creations were the envy of many who sought out her delicacies until she had to retire when “old Arthur,” as she called it, crippled her hands.
Anne graduated in 1958 from Galesburg High School and in her 30s returned to college eventually graduating from Carl Sandburg, Bradley, and Western, having earned her master’s degree in education in 1987. She would have added that at Bradley she missed the Latin honor of summa cum laude by one-hundred of a grade point.
Anne was a five-foot-tall giant who made her presence known, who endlessly embarrassed her kids with her antics and penchant for the dramatic, who suffered more pain in 50 years of arthritis than a body ought to, and who through it all remained utterly unflappable in her faith. She wouldn’t want anyone to mourn her passing though she understood it would make us sad to see her go. Instead, she’d rather we imagine her turning cartwheels on the streets of gold and finally, finally getting to meet her best friend, Jesus
